 Lopud, an island with the village bearing the same name and a small harbour in the Elaphite Islands group, northwest of Dubrovnik; area 4.63 sq km (length 4.5 km; width up to 2 km); population 348. The relief is characterized by two parallel limestone crests; the higher, north-eastern crest (216 m) descends abruptly to the sea, so that the north-eastern coast is more difficult to approach. As an extension of those crests in the north-west stretches a reef called Sveti Mihajlo (St. Michael), and in the south-east the islands of Mali and Veliki Skupio and the islet of Skupio. |

The Brod Fortress (a monument of zero category) In Brod, which was an important strategic and traffic center controlling the border crossing towards Turkey and connecting main commercial trails at the time, in the period between 1715-1780 Austria built the large imperial and royal border Fortress of Brod on the Sava River, which along with the fortified baroque towns of Slavonia, namely Osijek and Stara Gradiška, belongs to the great defense system on the border towards the Turkish Empire, designed by the prince Eugene of Savoy in the first half of the 18 century. |

The city of Karlovac is situated in the very heart of Croatia, where valleys and hills meet, on the delta of four rivers - Korana, Kupa, Mrežnica and Dobra.
