Page 1 of 3 An old fishing settlement situated on the picturesque southern side of the island serving as a ferry docking for the Biograd - Tkon line. Stretching from the docking area are sandy and rocky coves. From the surrounding mountains an unforgettable view of the nearby islands and Kornati can be taken in. The destination of all the tourists who visit the island is the St. Kuzma & Damjan's Benedictine Monastery on Mt. Cokovac near Tkon dating from the 12th century.
Povijest
Podno benediktinskog samostana na Ćokovcu, formiralo se naselje težaka i ribara koji su stoljećima nadgledali strateški ulaz u Pašmanski kanal kao dio puta od Vanecije do Svete zemlje. Sjedište popovske glagoljaške bratovštine i stoga s većom dozom autonomije pod Mlecima. U drugom svjetskom ratu Njemci ga fortificiraju pa ga saveznici u više navrata bombardiraju. Dvadesetak poginulih stanovnika i oštećena župna crkva Sv. Tome. |
