 The island of Pasman forms a part of the Zadar archipelago. The picturesque Pasman Channel, with many islands resembling scattered pearls, separates it from the mainland and the towns of Zadar and Biograd. The rapid stream that changes its course every 6 hours makes the sea a very clean part of the Croatian Adriatic, alredy known for its clearness and transparence. Very early humans settled in the area of Pasman (63 sq km).
The island of Pasman is covered with lavish Mediterranean vegetation - pinewoods, vineyards, olive-groves, orchards and dense evergreen growing wild, and also with some aromatic and medicine herbs. Its submarine life is very rich, with various kinds of shells and fish. A majority of the population /3100/ of the small villages of Tkon, Ugrinic, Kraj, Pasman, Mali Pasman, barotul, Mrljane, Nevidjane, Dobropoljana, Banj and Zdrelac lives of fishery and farming.
Recently, these diligent, hardworking and serene fishermen and farmers have been offering a lot: -appartments, I and II cat, rooms, vacation houses, pansions, car-camping, taverns, wine cellars and restaurants. You are supposed to taste the fruits of the sea and the products of their hard work in the fields, on a fertile, rich, ecologically safe island of Pasman. The island of Pašman was inhabited in the prehistoric period. The constant human presence continued in the ancient times and the earliest mention of the island was in the early Middle Ages. Numerous material remains of Roman architecture, preserved stone inscriptions and a considerable amount of coins, confirm the fact that the island was inhabited during the Roman rule in Dalmatia .
The name Pasman (Postimana) was first mentioned in rolls from 990. Byzantine emperor and travel writer Constantine Porfirogenet in his work " De administrando imperio " recorded the medieval name of the island, although in Greek “Katan”, which would be closer to the present name of the town of Tkon .
Certain towns on the island, according to the data available so far, appear in the following order: Tkon in 950, Pasman in 990, Nevidjane in 1067, Banj in 1625, Dobropoljana in 1284, Barotul in 1309, Mrljane in 1343, Zdrelac in 1446, Punta Pasman in 1472.
In history as well as today, the population of the island of Pasman made their living with agriculture, oil-production, fishing. The following had its landed property on the island: Zadar archbishopric, Zadar Benedictines of Sv. Krsevan, certain citizens of Zadar and Biograd and later on Tkon Benedictines. Since 1392, there has been a Franciscan convent on Pasman Island in Kraj whose documents throw light on the history of this island.
After the fall of the Venetian Republic , Pasman, as well as the entire Dalmatia , falls under the French rule and then under the Austrian rule till the fall of the Monarchy and since 1918 it has constantly been a part of Croatia . Concerning the names of the Pasman villages, we have been able to trace them in written documents since the 10th century till the present day. Pašman has taken the lead position between the numerous islands of Zadar when speaking about number of preserved medieval works of art and monuments:
The Franciscan monastery of St. Duje in Kraj - a very important cultural monument, built in 1390 in the Gothic style to be reconstructed in the Renaissance style in the middle of the 16th century. There is a cloister in the convent, renovated in the 17th century in the Baroque style, the figure of Our Lady with the Child from the 15th century and a museum with exhibits.
The Benedictine monastery of St. Kuzma and Damjan besides being the famous for its clerical activities, it is even more famous as an oasis of folk literacy. It was the centre of the Glagolitic writing, an early Croatian dialect and writing. The monastery was build in the Romanesque style in the 12th century and radicaly reconstructed in the Gothic style during the 14th and middle of 15th century. The most important literary in this region are: "The breviary of Pašman" from the 14th century and "The code of Tkon" from 16th century - two most valuable Glagolitic manuscripts. Each place on the island has its own, originally built church (parish) and this fact makes these places special in their own way.

Roka The church of St. Roko – Pašman The church of St. Thomas - Tkon - was mentioned in the 11th century; the parish church was built in 1742 and renovated in 1938 and newly renovated between 1945-57. The church of St. Ante – Pašman Church – Neviđane The church of St. Lucas had been mentioned in 1289. for the first time. The church has rectangular shape with a square sacristy in its extension. At the end of 19th century the front facade and tower bell have been built. After the Second World war the statue of Virgin Mary has been restaured and in 1937. there has been founded the girls choir of Our Lady of Lourdes.
